Supporters of Mr. Nisly claim he would be better on taxes. It makes one wonder if they know what their candidate really stands for. Mr. Nisly wants Indiana to leave the union. This is one of his stated desires and he used to have a link to the petition to secede on his website. Would that lower taxes?
You don't have to think too hard to realize how much this would change the tax structure of the people of Indiana. Of course, we wouldn't be paying income taxes to the IRS so that would be a benefit. Obamacare would be gone and many would consider that a benefit. But we would no longer have Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid. To replace those three, Indiana taxes would have to go through the roof. And then we would no longer have an Army or Navy or National Guard. We would have to replace them with our own militia and we would have to buy or build our own tanks and planes, etc. No more national road funds for the interstates and so we would have to raise taxes further. No more federal funding to our schools and universities. How would our local biomedical businesses fare if they no longer qualified for health care payments via Medicare and Medicaid from the federal government?
After withdrawing from the national government, Indiana would have to set up a diplomatic corps, we would have to work against import duties and work to promote our exports and combat duties levied against us. We would need to set up our own immigration policies, educational policies, environmental policies all independent of the nation. We would also have to set up our own currency. Does anyone really think that we can lower taxes by doing something so foolish? Of course not.
Seceding from the union is something Mr. Nisly wants to do. How in heavens name can Mr. Nisly be the nominee of the Republican party? The party whose greatest hero, Abraham Lincoln, gave his life to sustain and maintain the union.
As prosecutor, David Kolbe made and saved Kosciusko County thousands of dollars by instituting a misdemeanor deferral program and by improving collections of child support. He has shown himself to be a prudent guardian of the public's funds.
Mr. Nisly hasn't even gotten into office yet and he's already being investigated for violating campaign laws by illegally using a website funded by taxpayer dollars for his own benefit. What will he do if he gets into office?
And Nisly is a conservative? Please. He accepted $15,000 from a labor union that is opposed to Indiana’s right to work law. Does that sound like a conservative? Of course not. Vote wisely, NOT Nisly.
