NIPSCO - NOTICE OF INTENT

    Northern Indiana Public Service Company (801 E. 86th Avenue, Merrillville, Indiana 46410) is submitting a Notice of Intent to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management of our intent to comply with the requirements of 327 IAC 15-5 to discharge storm water from construction activities associated with the Reynolds to Topeka Electric System Improvement Project (Project) to be located in White, Pulaski, Starke, Marshall, Kosciusko, Elkhart, and LaGrange Counties, Indiana.  During this Project, approximately 100 miles of 345 kV electric power transmission line will be constructed within a 200-foot right-of-way.  The Project extends from the existing Reynolds Substation in White County in Section 22, Township 27N, Range 4W (40° 46’ 18.9”N, 86° 52’ 9.7”W) to the existing Forrest G. Hiple Substation in LaGrange County in Section 22, Township 36 N, Range 8E (41° 33’ 28.3”N, 85° 35’ 46.7”W).
    Runoff from the Project site will discharge to the following streams: Unnamed Tributary to Rowe-Eden Ditch, Rowe-Eden Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Mcallister Ditch, Phillips Ditch, Elkhart River, Unnamed Tributary to Elkhart River, Long Ditch, Dry Run, Hire Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Solomon Creek, Juday Ditch, Unnamed, Tributaries to Turkey Creek, Turkey Creek, Coppes Ditch, Davison Ditch, Martin Ditch, Danner Ditch, Lerner-Berger Ditch, Deer Creek, Wolf Creek, Clifton Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Yellow Creek, Listenberger Ditch, Lowry Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Moore Lake, Zechiel Arm, Unnamed Tributaries to Zechiel Arm, Hawkins Ditch, House Ditch, James Ditch, Ora Arm, Castleman Ditch, Bartee Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Taylor Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Fell Ditch, Fell Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Hook Ditch, Passmore Ditch, Hanley Ditch, Hartwick Ditch, Lougis Ditch, Thompson Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Hoover Ditch, Unnamed Tributaries to Fisher Ditch, Unnamed Tributaries to Franks Ditch, Franks Ditch, Dutton Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Dutton Ditch, Unnamed Tributaries to Wallace Ditch, Wallace Ditch, Stout Ditch, Swingle Ditch, Unnamed Tributaries to Weltzin Ditch, Weltzin Ditch, Unnamed Tributaries to Harp Ditch, Harp Ditch, Unnamed Tributary to Big Monon Ditch, Big Monon Ditch, Carlson Ditch, Unnamed Tributaries to Big Monon Creek, McKillip Ditch, Hoagland Ditch, and Honey Creek.  NIPSCO will utilize best management practices (BMPs) to ensure stormwater discharges from Project construction areas meet or exceed Indiana Rule 5 permit requirements and are protective of natural resources in the Project area.
