NIMBYs

How courageous and inspiring that someone has the fortitude to take on a task that most of us know needs to be addressed. It is not often that I agree with the View but last Saturday I agreed with every word. There are nuts and bolts to be worked out, to be sure but the concept is inescapable.

The backlash is right out of Sociology 101, i.e. NIMBY. It has always been around probably since mankind left the cave. I have never been in the building on Market Street but it appears to be quite small. The other property seems a better size and also would have access to a food store as the one on Market Street also would.

As for the merchant who called the police, I don't see that as any big deal. In another town I called the police when the teenage son of our backdoor neighbor, whose parents were out of town for the weekend, decided to have his rock band play on their basketball court, which backed up to our back yard at high octane decibels. When they would not tone the volume down, I called the cops who negotiated a compromise and all were satisfied. That's one of the jobs the police do - maintain peace.

But I have a thought. We could contact the Ministry of Magic at Harry Potter's Hogwats School and have him concoct a potion that could be sprayed on unwanted persons and they would become invisible - out of sight, out of mind. Then we could sit comfortably in our pews on Sunday morning and pray that our sins be forgiven without the slightest hint of guilt. OMG!
