NAPPANEE - Niles McDiarmid, 89, of 1700 Waterfall Drive, Nappanee, and formerly of Grand Ledge, Mich., died at 4:40 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008, in Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born July 23, 1919, in Sunfield, Mich., to Elias and Rosa Shellenbarger McDiarmid. On May 3, 1941, in Lake Odessa, Mich., he married Marie Clark, who died March 23, 2008.

Moving to Nappanee from Grande Ledge in 1996, he was a member of Baptist Church, Grand Ledge, and attended Nappanee City Church. He was a 1937 Lake Odessa High School graduate, a World War II Army veteran and retired from General Motors in 1976.

Surviving are a son, LeRoy McDiarmid, Nappanee; a daughter, Patricia (and spouse Jim) Otis, Nappanee; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. There will be cremation.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nappanee Missionary Church auxiliary gym.

Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is in charge of arrangements.
