Bower Wins Epilepsy Research Prize
Dr. Mark R. Bower, former Warsaw resident, recently was named the winner of the 2012 Morris-Cole Epilepsia Prize.
The award is supported by the International League Against Epilepsy and the Morris-Cole Trust. The prize is awarded each year to the author of a high-quality research paper with implications for understand and/or treating epilepsy.
The prize will be awarded at the 30th International Epilepsy Congress in Montreal, Canada, Sunday.
Bower graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1983; Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology; University of Central Florida; and University of Arizona. He currently is employed at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
He is the son of Roger and Jane Bower, Warsaw.

Kosciusko Cares Launches New Site
Kosciusko Cares launches its brand new website this week at kosciuskocares.org
Kosciusko Cares is a youth outreach organization committed to at-risk prevention. It is a sponsored project of the Otis R. Bowen Center and is spearheaded by Marsha Jane Carey.
Kosciusko Cares will start with a social media outreach campaign to start open dialogue with teens about current issues. Through the campaign the group hopes to organize a youth leadership summit during the 2013-2014 school year. As a long-term goal, the organization will get feedback from area teens about future events as well as put them in leadership roles.
The Kosciusko Cares advisory board consists of leaders through area organizations such as the Syracuse Community Center, Wawasee Schools, Warsaw Schools, ULead, Camp Crosley, Grace College and more.
If any local teens are interested in the organization they can find the group at kosciuskocares.org and contact Kosciusko Cares through the website. The organization is also on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

Walorski Sets Syracuse Office Hours
SYRACUSE – Second District Congresswoman Jackie Walorski has announced that a member of her staff will hold office hours June 26 at Syracuse Town Hall to assist constituents with casework and official business.
The office hours are from 9 a.m. to noon at Syracuse Town Hall, 310 N. Huntington St.
Residents who cannot attend the office hours are encouraged to contact Brian Spaulding at 574-780-1330 to schedule an appointment.

Mentone Elementary To Open Registration
MENTONE – Mentone Elementary School will hold its registration for the 2013-14 school year on July 31 and Aug. 1 from noon to 8 p.m.
As part of the registration process, Mentone will be doing a brief assessment of basic kindergarten skills for all incoming kindergarten students. The school is asking parents to make plans to bring their kindergarten child with them to registration so that the basic test can be completed prior to the first day of school.
Kindergarten teachers will be on hand to give a brief 10-question test. No appointment is necessary.
Mentone will hold its open house Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for parents and students to meet teachers and staff members and bring students’ school supplies to their classroom. Lockers will be assigned to students for their supplies.
There will be two sessions in which classroom teachers will hand out information regarding attendance and programs offered at Mentone.
Each room that parents visit will have a bucket to collect raffle tickets. A prize winner from each bucket will be drawn to win a Mentone Bulldog Backpack filled with school supplies. The school then will combine tickets for a chance to win gift certificates provided by the Mentone Parent Support Group. Ice cream will be served in the cafeteria. Mentone Student Council members will give tours, starting at the main entrance.

Wienermobile Visit Warsaw Saturday
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will stop by the Warsaw Meijer Saturday to help celebrate its grand opening.
One of a fleet of six touring the country, the Wienermobile will be at the store at 1200 Lake City Highway from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The crew will be playing family activites and handing out wiener whistles as well as coupons for Oscar Mayer products.[[In-content Ad]]
