SYRACUSE – The Warsaw Area Career Center and the Wawasee Area Career and Technical Cooperative are co-sponsoring the 11th annual Nontraditional Employment for Women Opportunities Workshop Oct. 31.
The six high schools involved are Fairfield, Tippecanoe Valley, Warsaw, Wawasee, West Noble and Whitko.
The workshop location has been moved to Quaker Haven Camp, EMS D16C Lane, Syracuse. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with keynote speaker Dottie Davis, followed by round-table discussions where the students have the opportunity to learn about five different careers.
After lunch, students will also participate in hands-on activities in different career areas. All activities will conclude by 2 p.m.
This year, a text-and-driving simulator has been added, sponsored by McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel.
Davis is a third-time keynote speaker for the workshop. She retired this summer as deputy police chief in Fort Wayne to become head of security for Fort Wayne Community Schools. Her speech will be about her non-traditional journey, and also touch on domestic violence issues, one of her specialties.
