By Staff Report-

Chief Agri-Industrial Division of Chief Industries Inc. plans to open its first company-owned distribution center today in Atwood.

The company will initially employ three people and expects to grow to as many as 15 workers over the next two to three years.

The 12,700-square-foot center consists of two warehouse buildings at 409 E. Main St., Atwood, including 1,300 square feet of office space.

The distribution center will handle Chief Titan stiffened and un-stiffened farm grain bins, Caldwell aeration fans, heaters and aeration floors and accessories.

In addition to the Chief products, the distribution center also will stock an inventory of Sudenga Industries Inc. bin unloading equipment and accessories.

The new center will primarily serve a 300-mile radius from Atwood.

Charles "Woody" Woodling of Warsaw has joined Chief Agri-Industrial Division as distribution center manager.

Roger Townsend, president of Chief Agri-Industrial Division, said, "We are very pleased to be adding a facility into the eastern grain production region of the U.S. market. This facility will help us better serve our dealers in this region, as well as expand our market share. We believe Kosciusko County is an ideal area for Chief to locate given its business-friendly attitude and proximity to our markets. We look forward to being a part of the community."

"We're pleased to have Chief Industries Inc. locate in Atwood, and are excited to welcome them to our community. Their choice of a site in Atwood is a good indication of Kosciusko County's value as a central location, not only in the Midwest but globally as well. Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation appreciated the opportunity to work with Chief Industries and their decision supports our effort to diversify our economy and employment sector," said Max Courtney, chairman of Kosciusko Economic Development Corp.

Chief Industries Inc. is a privately owned diversified company, with its headquarters located in Grand Island, Neb.
