That's when Provident Studios, 1520 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, begins offering vocal, acoustic guitar, bass, drums and electric guitar lessons to students. Cost is $20 per half hour, or $40 per hour. For a slightly more, students can have a CD made of their work by year's end. Weekly payments on specific packages will be offered.[[In-content Ad]]The studio is located in the Ken Anderson Films building.
"We're really focused on the the kids," said Provident studio director Tiffany Polston.
The studio used to be home to a record label. When the record label left, Ken Anderson Films had to decide what to do with the recording studio. Lane Anderson offered Polston the opportunity to become studio director.
"I was an artist on the label, that's how I got connected to Ken Anderson Films," said Polston.
Growing up in Warsaw, Polston said she had many good music experiences in the community and while attending Warsaw Schools. "It shaped my life," she said.
When Anderson approached Polston about the director job, Polston said she wanted to give back to the community and work with kids. She also met with Warsaw Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sandra Weaver about the idea. Weaver let Polston send flyers home with all Warsaw students last week.
Provident Studios opens its doors to students Jan. 7, but is accepting students now. Through word of mouth alone, Polston said they already have some students reserving time.
The studio has three to four teachers right now, Polston said, all accomplished. Eventually, she said they hope to add a piano teacher.
She said the studio's teachers will get to know the students. They will find out what the students' passions are and what they want to do in music. The lessons will be provided right in the studio. CDs will be recorded in the studio, where it also will be mixed.
The lessons will not be restricted to a specific genre of music, Polston said.
Down the road, when Provident Studios has a good group of students, Polston said they will have a CD release party at the end of the year. The students also will showcase their work at the party.
"The studio is obviously a great recording studio," said Polston.
The studio will not be limited to just young people. Polston said they plan to open their doors to the community. "We want to offer it to the community as much as we can," she said.
As for costs, she said they are "extremely comparable to any lesson in town."
But the big opportunity the studio is offering, Polston said, is the opportunity they are offering to students.
"We encourage parents to come in and look what we have to offer," she said.
Though the studio will be open most of the day, Polston said right now the focus is 3 to 8 p.m. when students are out of school.
A waiting room for parents is being remodeled so they can hang out at the studio while they wait for their child's lesson or recording time to finish. They do not, however, have to wait at the studio.
