New Art Gallery Set To Open
By Staff Report-
Owner Linda Dilling will feature a gallery managed by local artist Steve Creighton, a china painting studio and a clay/pottery studio run by herself and Joanna Lemler. Wood craft artist Jerry Krider, from Columbia City, will be represented in the gallery.
Located next door to the new Lakeland Art Gallery, the business will feature an upscale art gallery in the front third of the building.
Special painting displays and events are planned throughout the year.
Beyond the gallery will be the studio where Dilling and Lemler will work on their varied versions of ceramics.
A large classroom instruction area houses five potter's wheels, wedging table, slab roller, extruder, booth style work benches and a large counter work area. A glazing and firing room is located at the back of the store.
Lemler specializes in raw clay thrown on the wheel or sculpted.
Joining her in offering classes will be Leigh Utter, working with slab rolled clay, and Cheryl Hanley, who specializes in porcelain on the wheel and hump molded plates, bowls and dishes.
Dilling specializes at the other end of the spectrum in the painting of porcelain and tiles. No other business in this area offers this art form.
The studio also will display and sell pieces designed and painted by Lemler and Dilling as well as art work by various other artists.
The business will be open Friday through Dec. 18, offering special Christmas gift items.
Gift certificates for spring classes will be available for gift giving. Like other businesses in the area, it will close for the season Dec. 18.
A grand opening is being planned after the first of the new year.
