BOURBON – Neva Miller Mason, 87, Hubbard Hills Estate Assisted Living Community, Elkhart, for the past 10 years, and formerly of Bourbon, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Jan. 24, 2015.
She was born July 17, 1927, at home in Bourbon Township, to Wendell H. and Iloe Brown Miller. On Oct. 21, 1952, she married Lewis Mason, who died March 12, 2005.
She had been a lifelong resident, a graduate of Bourbon High School class of 1945 and attended Manchester College for two years. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, where she was a Sunday school teacher and financial secretary. She was also a member of Bourbon Homemakers, and she enjoyed photography.
She and husband were significant in the community as the owners of the First State Bank, where they were part of many people’s lives. She was most notable for her personality. She was a friendly face who always greeted everyone at the bank with a smile and always asked how you and your family were doing. She had been involved at the bank from 1945 until 2002 when retirement was the next step of her life. She will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte (and spouse David) Mason Warner, West Lafayette; two sons, Ralph (and spouse Louise) Mason and Brad (and spouse Angela) Mason, all of Bourbon; and nine grandchildren: John and Daniel Mason; Victoria (and spouse Brian) Nugent; Brittany and Lewis James; Kendall, Kylie, Kaelyn and Kolbie Mason. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh Fellowship, formerly Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren, 5699 10th Road, Bourbon. Burial is in Mt. Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
