Neighborhood Beautification Is Sixth Stellar Project

By Staff Report-

The sixth Stellar Communities project will create a buffer that protects homes from some of the impacts of existing industries.
The early industries in Warsaw helped build strong neighborhoods, according to information from the City of Warsaw Building & Planning Department.
Having jobs close to homes is not a new idea. As environmental concerns grown, communities are trying to find ways to protect resident’s quality of life while keeping major employers.
This project will target the areas between homes and manufacturers for screening and beautification. Improvements could include landscaping, trees, fencing, lighting and greening alleys. In addition to buffering, this project could complete sidewalk links to allow for easier connections between neighbors.
The goal is to improve quality of life in the neighborhood by screening incompatible uses and making sidewalk connections, the information states.
The plan to do this is by creating a buffer between houses and industries, adding sidewalk connections through the neighborhood and beautifying the side streets.
Indiana will designate its 2016 Stellar Communities Aug. 18 at the state fair, and the City of Warsaw is one of three finalists vying for the honor in its category.
To inform the local community about the proposed projects the city has in mind as part of the Stellar Community Program, and to gather input, Warsaw has created a Facebook page under “Warsaw + Winona Lake A Stellar Connection.”
Each week, the Facebook page will detail two of the proposals, which also will be published in the Times-Union. Two proposals have been published each week for the last two weeks, and the fifth project was highlighted earlier this week.[[In-content Ad]]
