AKRON – Nayomia Maple, 70, Akron, died at 2 a.m. Dec. 15, 2013, at her residence after being in failing health for a year and a half.
She was born July 30, 1943, in Hurley, Va., to Hannible and Katherine Justice Lester. On July 6, 1964, in Hurley, she married Ervin Dotson, who died May 6, 1976. On June 3, 1978, in North Manchester, she married Jerry D. Maple, who died April 28, 2008.
She retired from Tippecanoe Valley Middle School as a cook. She also worked prior to the middle school at Akron Elementary. She was a homemaker who loved to clean and visit family.
Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer (and spouse Eric) Murphy, Akron; three sons: James Edward (and spouse Lorena) Dotson, El Paso, Texas; Jerry Jr. (and spouse Malana) Maple, and Travis Michael (and spouse Melissa) Maple, both of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Edith Justus, Hurley, Va., and Retha Adams, Akron; 10 grandchildren: Tyler, Katelyn, Ashlyn and Elijah Maple, Dylan and Brandon Murphy, Roma Dotson, Kaitlyn and Hailey Baysinger and Chandler Zartman. She also was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters: Rebecca Dotson, Okie Justice, Clemie Bailey, Mary Lester and Pearl Justus; and a brother, Lawrence Lester.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. A private family burial will take place at Gaerte Cemetery, Macy.
Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
