NAPPANEE – Women, especially moms, are trying to keep everything together and running smoothly. In the busyness of life, it’s difficult to find balance and realize you don’t have to do it all.
Area women are invited to “Got Balance? A Retreat for Women on Balance, Busyness and Not-Doing-It-All” Oct. 25, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Coppes Commons, Nappanee.
Local speaker and author Brenda L. Yoder will encourage women to find balance and wholeness in the busyness and stress of life and motherhood.
Yoder has a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. She is a speaker and freelance writer on faith, life and parenting and speaks to women’s groups throughout the country. She is a parenting columnist for several online magazines, and was recently featured in “Chicken Soup For The Soul: Reboot Your Life.”
Yoder is releasing her first book this spring, “Magnified, Finding God’s Best In Busyness.”
According to a press release, Yoder, a former teacher, received the REMC Touchstone Award for Teachers in 2003 and 2004, and she is currently a part-time school counselor for Concord Community Schools and has a small private counseling practice. She is a wife, mom of four and lives in Shipshewana.
Yoder’s passion for ministering to moms grows out of her personal and professional experiences. “Everywhere I speak, women – especially moms – say they’re tired, stressed and feel like they just can’t do it all. I can identify. I’m that mom. At the time I was the busiest and most-stressed, I was managing everything, but my world was falling apart.
Retreat topics include faith-based applications for finding balance; new ways to look at expectations; keys to finding balance in wholeness; truths to help women gain confidence to live in their strengths, not weaknesses; practical applications for running a household and family without doing it all; hope for difficult situations.
The retreat is organized by local women who went to one of Yoder’s retreats and wanted to bring it to their community. They also want to reach out to other women by having a portion of the proceeds benefit the Spa Women’s Ministry of Elkhart.
According to the release, the Spa Women’s Ministry is an educational and faith-based residential home that offers women a safe environment to make positive and permanent life changes. Retreat attendees are encouraged to bring items to donate for Spa Women’s ministry, such as feminine care products, shampoo, toilet paper, envelopes, stamps, or gas cards. More information about Spa Women’s Ministry can be found at spaministryhomes.org
Tickets for the retreat are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased through Oct. 24 online at brendayoder.com, by e-mail at [email protected], at the Light of Grace Bookstore in the Coppes Commons or by contacting Lindsay London at 574-354-0665.
Retreat attendees will also receive a free e-book, “10 Ways Busy Moms Can Find Rest.”
Ladies will enjoy lunch on their own at one of the local restaurants in Nappanee. This event is non-denominational and is supported by area businesses. Complete information can be found at brendayoder.com
