MILFORD - Police are investigating a Nappanee man's claim that he was robbed at gunpoint while stopped at an intersection west of Milford.

Jason Rangel notified the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at 12:13 a.m. today that he was robbed of his wallet by two armed men. A third man reportedly stayed in the suspects' vehicle.

Rangel told police he left Milford and was driving toward home when he saw a green four-door Chrysler following him westbound on CR 1250N. Rangel turned north on CR 300W and, before arriving at the stop sign at CR 1350N, the driver of the green vehicle reportedly began flashing the headlights of the car at Rangel. He said he stayed at the stop sign to see what the people wanted, when two men approached the vehicle.

The first suspect was allegedly armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, which he pointed at Rangel as he yelled for him to get out of the truck and give him the drugs. Rangel said he told the men he didn't have any drugs. He then saw the second man, who was allegedly armed with a .22-caliber rifle. That suspect allegedly fired a round from his weapon and yelled at Rangel to give him his wallet. The suspect then reportedly took Rangel's wallet containing about $200 in cash, entered and searched Rangel's truck, then turned Rangel's vehicle off and took the keys.

The suspects then allegedly told Rangel to take off his clothes. However, one of the men reportedly yelled that there was vehicle coming, so they got back into their car and fled the scene. The car was last seen eastbound on CR 1250N. Rangel said he then ran to a nearby residence and called police.

A search of the area around Rangel's truck did not turn up a spent shell from the rifle that allegedly was fired.

The suspects are described as follows:

• A white male 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 120 to 140 pounds. He was wearing a black ski mask and a black jacket with white lines on it. He allegedly was armed with a shotgun.

• A black male about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a black ski mask and a tan jacket and pants. He allegedly was armed with a rifle.

• A black male with no other description available. He reportedly remained in the vehicle.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at 267-5667. [[In-content Ad]]
