By Staff Report-
Muguku, who is from Kenya, graduated from Grace College.
After getting his U.S. citizenship, he legally changed his name to James Kennedy.
Kennedy is well known in the area and worked in the orthopedic industry before moving to Fort Wayne.
Prior to the awards program after the marathon, Kennedy will share his story. Kennedy gained national attention a few years ago as he led the Chicago Marathon in an unprecedented time of less than 5 minutes, 17 seconds per mile over the first 17 miles. Tragedy then struck, as he pulled a leg muscle and couldn’t finish the race.
Kennedy’s goal is to train in Kenya with the Kenyan elite team runners and prepare for the 2013 Los Angeles Marathon.
All of this year’s proceeds will go toward Mission Trip Scholarships.
Pre-registration for the Switch-Back 5K is now underway, and each participant that pre-registers will receive a shirt.
Registration on the day of the race will start at 6:30 a.m. The race will start promptly at 8 a.m.
