MPL Offers Nutrition Programs

Joan Younce, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, presented a program on healthy stir-fry at the Milford Public Library on Sept. 24. Younce demonstrated how to make chicken lo mein and fried rice. Eighteen people attended the program. Everyone enjoyed the stir-fry. Nancy Levernier and Lee McFarren each won a copy of the book, "The Everything Stir-fry Cookbook," by Rhonda Lauret Parkinson as door prizes. Sharon Gilbert won a stir-fry pan and utensils. The next nutrition program will be Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. - holiday favorites with a healthy twist.
Scrapbooking with Michelle will be Oct. 1 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the library meeting room. Bring your supplies and have some fun!
Lapsit with Tina will be held on Tuesdays in October at 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. The first lapsit was today.
Preschool Story Time for ages 2-6 will be on Wednesdays starting Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the library meeting room. Story Time will be an eight-week session. Sign-up at the children's desk.
Dress up and act it out through dramatic play! Learn what it is and how it can enhance literacy. Join the October Book Buddies for a fun and funny session on making puppets and how to use them with children. Children, age 2-3/4 and up and accompanied by a parent or caregiver, are invited to join the fun. Pick up a brochure or contact Early Childhood Alliance, 800-423-1498. Early Childhood Alliance Book Buddies will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the library meeting room.
The Library Long Range Planning meeting will be Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. in the library meeting room.
Family Movie Day will be on Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. in the library meeting room. The movie is about a penguin that leaves his family to go into surfing to be the champion. At 85 minutes, it is rated PG.
The 100th birthday party planning committee will meet at 5 p.m. Oct. 11 in the library meeting room. The committee will discuss plans for the library's 100th birthday on Dec. 12.
TEEN Read Week is Oct. 14-20. The theme this year is "lol @ your library." A TEEN movie will be shown Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. in the library meeting room. The movie is about two young teens' real selves are invisible to others, one due to his untimely death and the other due to the neglect she's endured since the death of her mother. Rated PG13, is 98 minutes.
The Teen Pumpkin Carving contest is Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. Any teen who would like to participate needs to bring their hollowed-out pumpkin to the library meeting room to be carved. There will be lots of design patterns available, or you can bring your own ideas. Carving tools will be provided by the library. All teens are welcome to join the fun - there will be prizes and refreshments! Patrons will be asked to vote for their favorite pumpkin Oct. 25 to Nov. 1. Winners will be announced in the newspaper.
The library will have the third annual Lights Out at the Library Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. This year's theme is "Where the Wild Things Are," written by Maurice Sendak. If you would like to donate bags of candy for this event, drop them off at the adult desk.[[In-content Ad]]
