Police and medics were called around 9:15 a.m. to Ind. 15, just north of Plum Street, where a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle had rear-ended a pickup and the rider was ejected, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Chad Hill. The motorcyclist then flew into oncoming traffic, Hill said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld as police work to notify his family.
He was not wearing a helmet, Hill said.
The crash remains under investigation, Hill said, and a formal report is expected later today. Police were interviewing drivers of two pickup trucks.
The man’s bronze motorcycle lay on its side in the northbound lane, flanked by a dozen emergency vehicles as officers investigated the collision. A maroon Toyota Tacoma sat parked in the southbound lane beside it, with a white pickup several car-lengths back parked just off the northbound lane.
North and south-bound traffic on Ind. 15 was diverted through central Leesburg for nearly two hours as crews worked the scene.[[In-content Ad]]
