More Abortions

This letter will focus specifically on the topic of mandated abortion in the potential nationalized health care plan as it is currently written.

For starters, unless Congress specifically prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion, it is going to be in the plan. The way the health care bill is currently written, abortions will be mandated across the board, increasing their number. Planned Parenthood will receive more taxpayer dollars than they already do. Last year out of Planned Parenthood's $1 billion income, 34 percent came from the government.

Candidate Obama made it clear in speaking to Planned Parenthood that in his mind any health care plan will include abortions. This is the same man who said he wanted abortions to be rare. Wendy Wright, of Concerned Women for America, recently sat down with some White House officials and they told her that "It is not their goal to reduce abortions."

According to Dr. James Dobson, the current health care legislation will "mandate" that virtually every American will be coerced into a healthcare plan that covers abortion and health care providers will be forced into "violating their own consciences by performing abortions at the risk of losing their own jobs." In other words, as Dr. Dobson states, "every American will be forced to support the killing of babies."

Think about this fact: Under the health care bill, you or your children can be denied a life-sustaining procedure while your tax dollars go to Planned Parenthood so they can increase abortions in this country by 30 percent or more.

Tony Perkins of Focus on the Family gave the following scenario specifically to pastors: "If your church provides health care for you and your staff through the tithes that come into the church that tithe money will go into a defined benefits plan constructed by the government which, as it currently stands, the government exchange will require that it include abortion. The church will then be subsidizing Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry."

Abortion activists are being urged by the White House to get back into the mode of campaigning to ensure that abortion is included in the health care bill. Likewise, those of us who are supporters of life must write, call and e-mail our congressman and senators to let them know what we think and how we feel. If you are able I urge you to most importantly handwrite a letter and hand deliver it to their offices while they are on August recess.

Congressman Souder has a local office in the Boathouse building in Winona Lake. Senator Lugar's address in Fort Wayne is: Covington Plaza, 6384 A West Jefferson Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, 260-422-1505. Senator Bayh's Fort Wayne address is: 1300 S. Harrison St., Suite 3161, Fort Wayne, IN 46802, 260-426-3151.

Thank you for caring about your own health, the health of your family and friends and the health of our nation's most innocent - the babies.
