MLK Event Set Monday

The 23rd annual ceremony is at 11:30 a.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium, Winona Lake.
The event is free and open to the public. The program includes a lunch provided by sponsorship of area businesses.
The program will highlight youth, inquiry and thought.
The program includes a quiz bowl competition on the history of Martin Luther King Jr., according to Jim Banks, Committee to Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. board chairman.
Eighth-graders from Edgewood and Lakeview middle schools and Lakeland Christian Academy will research the history of the four eras of King's ministry: The Montgomery Bus Boycott, The 1963 March on Washington, The Selma to Montgomery March of 1965, and The Memphis Crusade of 1968.
Judges for the quiz bowl are Margaret Mauzy, former teacher at Marion High School; Dr. Ronald Manahan, Grace College and Seminary president; and Ernie Wiggins, Warsaw mayor.
Also during the ceremony, winners of the 2011 Academic Excellence and Community Service Awards will receive $1,000 each.
The awards will be presented by Dr. Craig Hintz, Warsaw Community Schools superintendent.
People who attend the ceremony are asked to bring two or three cans of food that will be donated to Salvation Army for distribution to needy families. An opportunity for cash donations will be set up at the program.[[In-content Ad]]
