He was born April 17, 1927, in Middlecreek, Ky., to Carew and Nora Ellen Castle. On March 20, 1953, in Warsaw, he married Joan Keplinger, who survives.
He lived in Pierceton most of his life until moving to Warsaw where he lived for 10 years. He was a core maker for Dalton Foundries, Warsaw, for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He was a former member of American Legion Post 258, Pierceton, and a former member and past president of the American Rose Society, Fort Wayne. He had a passion for growing roses, was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan as well as listening to the music of the Carter family. He loved bowling, playing on several bowling teams as well as playing guitar.
Also surviving are three sons: Ronald (and spouse Pam) Castle, Columbia City; Michael Castle, Warsaw; and Dennis (and spouse Janet) Castle, Pierceton; four sisters: Haley Shepherd, Gunlock, Ky.; Helen King, Greenfield; Mazie Harris, Sellers Lake; and Hazel Bradley, Liberty Mills; two brothers, Carter Castle, Gunlock, Ky., and Danny Castle, North Manchester; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Castle; and two brothers, Manus and Von Castle.
Services will be at noon Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Ind. 13, Pierceton, with Pastor Steve Mullen officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with military honors by member of American Legion Post 258, Pierceton.
Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
