Not burden in the typical way of being burdened by something negative.
He talked about the burden of being someone with a faith in Jesus Christ.
With that in mind, a member of Simfukwe’s Mission Point Community Church took the burden of service and acted.
They gave $1,000 to help ease the burden of people in the community.
So using social media to tip people off, members of Mission Point took to the Shell gas station on Center Street in Warsaw Tuesday night to give away 100 $10 gas cards to those who stopped in.
It’s all a part of the greater goal of the church.
Mission Point has taken some unique ways to give back to the community.
While doing things like the gas flash mob Tuesday night, they have also been known to give rides home to people at local bars.
Those rides, the gas cards, the other good deeds don’t come with a pre-packaged speech, testimonial or even literature.
“We’re called to give back to our community,” said Simfukwe. "We're called to serve."
And Tuesday night’s blitz was much appreciated.
It took less than 25 minutes to give all the cards out and traffic swarmed to the downtown location.
“I have two kids at home and things nowadays are tough,” said Matt Stanley. “Every little bit helps.”
One thing that stood out about Tuesday’s event was the involvement of young people and the use of social media.
Simfukwe along with executive pastor Abe Hepler said they have embraced things like Twitter and Facebook to help not only get their message across but also communicate things they are doing in the community.
The gas giveaway was teased on the church’s Facebook page as well as both Simfukwe and Hepler’s Twitter accounts.
Many of those who attend Mission Point, which meets at Lakeland Christian Academy, are college age, teenagers or people in their 20s.
And they were out in full force Tuesday night.
