Missing Akron Man's Body Found in Porter County

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

PORTER COUNTY – The body of a missing Akron man, Ruben Paredes, 32, was found Monday in a ditch near Hebron.
“The preliminary investigation shows he was apparently killed by a gunshot. It’s being handled as a homicide investigation,” Akron Town Marshal Tim Fleck stated this morning.
The Porter County Sheriff’s Department identified the body as Paredes’. According to Fleck, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris conducted the autopsy Tuesday.
Due to the ongoing investigation, Fleck declined to say if Paredes was shot more than once or the location of the gunshot wound.
At the time of the missing person investigation, Fleck said, there was no indication of a crime having taken place.
Paredes was last seen by his wife at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1.
“We received the missing person’s report on Feb. 3,” Fleck said.
On Feb. 5, Chicago police found Paredes’ abandoned car on the city’s South Side at 9011 Stoney Island Ave. No evidence was found to suggest foul play.
When Paredes’ body was located around 5 p.m. Monday by a person driving through the area of CRs 100S and 500W, the body already was decomposing. Fleck said it was basically just a farm area and there was water in the ditch.
A joint investigation into the murder will continue by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department and Akron police.
“Just a lot of leg work to do now,” Fleck said of the next steps in the investigation. “The investigation is underway and is being treated as a homicide.”
Fleck said Porter County is handling any kind of tips or leads.
“Obviously, we’re reaching out to the people of Porter County since there’s where the body was found,” Fleck said.
Anyone with information about Paredes’ murder should call PSCD Commander Jeff Biggs at 219-477-3141. Anonymous tips can be called into WeTip at 800-782-7463.[[In-content Ad]]
