Mishler, 39, a Republican from Bremen, was first elected to the Senate in 2004.
The district includes portions of Kosciusko, Marshall, St. Joseph and Elkhart counties.[[In-content Ad]]"It has been a privilege to represent the residents of District 9, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve for another four years," Mishler said.
He said he is seeking re-election because he feels it is important for the younger generation to participate in the decision-making process at the statehouse.
"I try and take the values from my family business and bring them to Indianapolis, and I find the biggest challenge is fighting for our rural communities," Mishler said.
Mishler currently works full time at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, and the Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Homes in Syracuse and Milford.
He said if he is re-elected, he hopes to continue work on property taxes and healthcare.
"Last year's Healthy Indiana Plan was a first step toward healthcare reform, and I think we can continue to move forward from there," Mishler said.
He described the proposed property tax plan as aggressive and a work in progress. He said he thinks adjustments will need to be made along the way.
He is a member of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, Health and Provider Services and is a ranking member on the Utility and Regulatory Affairs Committee. He also serves as assistant majority whip for the Republican caucus.
Mishler is a graduate of Bremen High School, the University of Southern California and Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
He is a member of Bremen Chamber of Commerce, the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce and the Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce. He also is on the board of directors of Bremen Village Associates and the Indiana Funeral Directors Association. He attends Wawasee Community Bible Church, Milford.
