Mini Sprints To Race At County Fair Wednesday

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

For just the second time in the last 25 years, there will be racing at the Kosciusko County Community Fair.
On the front stretch of what was once the ever-popular Warsaw Speedway, there will be 600 cc mini sprint and junior sprint races Wednesday night.
The event, named the Roy Bradbury Classic, will begin at 7 p.m.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. and hot laps will begin at 6 p.m.
According to Jeanette Wood, Fair Office manager, there has been a positive response from the community.
“We’re trying it out,” said Wood. “We’re helping out the 600 mini sprint series. We’re expecting a big crowd. We’ve had pre-sale tickets, and everything has been nothing but positive.”
According to Wood, the fair board was approached about the possibility of racing at the fairgrounds.
The next step was testing a car at the track, and according to Wood, that also went well.
“Everything about the event has been positive,” said Wood. “Responses on Facebook and in the community, everything, it’s all been positive.”
Warsaw Speedway was closed in August of 1990.
There have been other motorsports events on the property – semi pulls, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, to name a few – but the only other racing in the last quarter century was a quarter midget event in 2010.
Dirt racing is still very popular amongst local residents.
There is even a Facebook page called “We Want Another Warsaw Speedway.”
“There’s enough interest, Warsaw could definitely support the track again,” said Sandy Atkins, member of the forementioned social media page and whose brothers Bimbo and Kevin drove racecars at Warsaw Speedway.
Roy Bradbury, for whom Wednesday’s event is named for, was the assistant flagman at Warsaw Speedway and worked at the fairgrounds for decades.[[In-content Ad]]
