Milford Treatment Plant Design Expected Soon

MILFORD - Sometime during the next couple of weeks, Milford utilities superintendent Dallas Winchester said, the engineering design and cost estimate for the new wastewater treatment facilities should be completed.
At the Milford Town Council Monday, Winchester said they anticipate that in April, any necessary ordinances that need passed will be introduced. From there, the town will have public hearings, public notices and hear any objections.
Bids could come as early as summer.
"There's a plan there. Hopefully, we'll meet all the dates on the plan," said Winchester.
Bidding for the project could be in July with construction in August. But, in order to get the best rates and bids for the project, Winchester said they may move that timetable.
The cost for the construction of the new plant, including engineering fees, is estimated at $852,000.
H.J. Umbaugh & Associates, Plymouth, is the town's financial consultants on the project. The town plans to borrow up to $1 million to fund the project through bonding.
In other business, the council:
• Approved the purchase of a 2003 Chevy police-equipped vehicle from McCormack Motors for $16,725 after trade in.
• Approved an ordinance for an additional appropriation for $40,600 due to "a mistake I made on the budget," according to clerk treasurer Charlotte Siegfried.
• Approved for Winchester to purchase a storage unit for the town hall to store miscellaneous items for an amount not to exceed $1,000.
• Heard from Siegfried she received a complaint from a woman regarding dogs running loose in town. The woman wanted to know why the town didn't have a leash ordinance. Town attorney Jay Rigdon was asked to research leash laws for the next meeting so it applies to domesticated animals.
• Announced the town's tornado siren will be tested in early April.
Members of the town council are chairman John Lehman, Douglas Ruch and Robert Phillips. They meet at 7 p.m. in the town hall on the second Monday of every month. [[In-content Ad]]
