MILFORD -ÊMilford has gained two new reserve officers.

Wednesday, Milford Town Marshal Dave Hobbs swore in Allen Danko and Gary Craft at the Milford Town Council meeting.

Danko is a Warsaw resident and Craft lives in Mentone. Craft's brother, Tom, was in the reserve program.

"They've been riding with our program since May or June. They've been with our guys for a while now," Hobbs told the council.

He said the new reserve officers' 40-hour pre-basic training is completed and they are waiting to get their handgun qualification completed.

In other business:

• The EMS reported as of Oct. 1 they received 169 calls for the year. There are also two new EMTs joining the staff. They will ride as trainees for a couple of months.

• Todd Sauter, park advisory board, asked the council to allow the park board to encumber the remaining $1,700 in the capital improvement account for next year. The money will be used to purchase a handicapped accessible picnic table for $469; replace three concrete picnic tables for $630 and replace the concrete pads for $289; and purchase a rototiller for $350. The council approved the money to be encumbered.

• Utilities Department head Dallas Winchester told the council leaf season has begun and every effort will be made to clean up every street when possible.

"I'd like to stress to the people we'd like those leaves on top of the curb and not into the street," he said.

Leaves also should not be raked into alleys or alleyways.

• Winchester said Royal Crown submitted plans to him for adding parking and storage on the north side of their facility. They have provided plans for additional drainage and have put in a swell as well as a valve to control the retention of water.

• Town hydrants will be flushed Oct. 22 from the early morning to 5 p.m. Winchester said all residents should refrain from doing laundry during that time. There may be some discoloration in the water, too.

• The council approved a 4 percent raise next year for the crossing guard at the intersection of Emmeline and Higbee streets.

• The next council meeting will be Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. [[In-content Ad]]
