Members voted in favor of a five-year abatement on equipment, which CTB plans to purchase as part of a $7.1 million plant expansion announced at the Oct. 13 meeting, and a 10-year abatement on real estate. Council had expressed during that meeting a desire to move quickly on the request outlined by Jeff Miller, operations manager for the poultry products maker, and so set the public hearing as soon as possible.
Miller said the company plans a 45,000-square-foot addition with new machinery and storage space, to help the company meet growing demand globally. CTB expects to add 80 jobs over the next four years.
At the regular meeting Monday, council agreed to let Marshal Rich Miotto advertise for a reserve deputy, since word of mouth wasn’t working as well as he hoped. He said he was reluctant to advertise because they don’t want to be flooded by unqualified applicants.
Also Monday, council:
• Heard a presentation on GovPayNet, a service that would give residents the option to pay bills by credit card at an approximately 3 percent fee. The town will consider the service after gathering input from utility customers.
• Agreed to keep the employee health care plan the same after hearing for an hour about other options. The current plan does include an 11 percent increase in cost to the town, which council anticipated in the 2015 budget.
• Approved the $1,825 purchase of a variable frequency drive for the wastewater treatment plant at the request of Utilities Superintendent Randy Veach, who said the equipment will clean the large-item screen without utility workers having to scrape it clean with a rake twice a day.
• Signed the 2015 contract with Multi-Township EMS, which includes no fee increase.
• Heard that hydrant flushing will take place next week and that the town offices will be closed today, Wednesday and Nov. 27 and 28.[[In-content Ad]]
