Milford Man Hurt In Crash

A Milford man was injured Monday morning in a three-vehicle collision on U.S. 6 at CR 9, near Nappanee.

Jack E. Barthel Jr., 54, Camelot Trail, was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital for neck and back injuries and later released.

According to Indiana State Police, a vehicle driven by Petra G. Beiring, 48, Millersburg, was westbound on U.S. 6 and began to slow down for an eastbound school bus that was loading children. Barthel's car then slowed quickly and a westbound semi, driven by Christopher D. Poppele, 26, Waterloo, Iowa, attempted to stop, but was unable to.

Poppele told police his semi jackknifed and struck Barthel's car in the rear end. The semi then hit Beiring's vehicle in the rear end with its drive axles.

Beiring was treated at Bremen Hospital for neck pain and released. Poppele was uninjured.

Damage for each vehicle was estimated at $2,500-$3,000. [[In-content Ad]]
