MILFORD - A Milford man was arrested for allegedly breaking into more than 100 vehicles.

Johnny Lee Leer, 20, of 202 Smith St., Milford, was arrested for burglary and is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.[[In-content Ad]]On May 1, at 12:46 a.m., Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residential burglary in the Camelot Lake area of Milford. Officers had found that a suspect entered into an unlocked vehicle, obtained keys and then went into the residence. The homeowner awoke and confronted the suspect, giving chase, but ultimately lost contact with him.

Milford Town Marshal Rich Miotto and officer Alicia Breaton provided Kosciusko County Det./Sgt. Joe Mooney with a possible suspect that matched the homeowner's description.

Leer was interviewed by the officers and confessed to the burglary, but also advised that other vehicles had been entered into recently. Leer further explained that several individuals had been involved in entering more than 100 vehicles in the past several months.

Leer stated that unlocked vehicles were entered into in areas of Milford, Syracuse, Lake Wawasee, Warsaw and Winona Lake, as well as some residences where keys were left in the vehicles.

The Crime Stoppers "Crime of the Week" from last week in Kosciusko County also was found to be one of the entered locations.

Mooney advised that charges have been filed with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office for the remaining three suspects.

Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert stated that citizens need to be conscious of locking their vehicles and residences. Goshert reminds that valuables should be stored or placed out of sight in vehicles as well as homes.
