MILFORD - Milford will finally see New Beginnings.

After several years of trying, Milford received a $450,000 matching grant to fund a New Beginnings Day Care facility.

The grant previously gave the town problems when their fund-raisers fell short of the amount required.

This year, however, they won out and New Beginnings will build a new facility on CR 1250N.

The new facility will be able to support 80 to 90 children for their many programs and activities.

New Beginnings Day Care currently offers a preschool operation that prepares children for kindergarten, a latch-key program to assist working parents, and, for children ages 4 to 6, the Dekko Foundation funds the Computer Tots program, which teaches basic computer skills.

There are special options available for low-income families as well.

The Indiana Department of Commerce, Energy Policy Division, awarded a grant to pay for the rubber tire mulch for the playground at the new facility.

New Beginnings is still selling bricks, which will be engraved and placed into the building during construction, at $70 for a small brick and $200 for a large one.

The Milford Police Department will finally get some relief, thanks to four new reserves.

During a special meeting last night at the Milford Town Hall, the town council appointed William Craft, Robin Lemons, Joseph Denton and Brandon Plater to the reserves.

Louis Mediano of the MPD is still off work because of a back injury and it is unknown when he will be able to return.

Elizabeth Winchester was hired as the new crossing guard, and Robert Hamilton, previously a part-time utility employee, was given a full-time position. [[In-content Ad]]
