Milford Considered for Verizon Tower

Verizon representative Judd Chaille brought the proposal to the council for a 200-foot-tall signal tower behind the treatment plant west of town.
Milford is the top candidate for tower placement, he told the council, because there aren’t many houses in the proposed area and access is already available. The site would only need to be rezoned from public use.
Based on the suburban category of the site, he estimated Verizon would offer $1,000 a month to rent the space. That could bring in about $500,000 over the 30-year term of the lease, he said.
Chaille said he would know which site is chosen within six weeks. Council took no action but did react favorably to the proposal.
Council later received a quote from Town Marshal Rich Miotto for a department SUV. At $25,000 for a 2013 Ford Explorer, he said Kerlin Motors in Silver Lake had the lowest price.
The amount came under what he budgeted for the vehicle, he noted.
Miotto also returned to the proposal for placing a school resource officer in Milford School. On the issue of security, he noted he was shocked to realize that, between students, staff and volunteers, the school has perhaps 700 people in and out every day, with the potential for 100 more students once Trupointe Cooperative Inc. moves in and starts hiring.
But council agreed it’s not an issue they’re about to push without input from the Wawasee School Corp. Cost is also a concern, Council President Doug Ruch said, noting that Milford doesn’t have the $50,000 to $60,000 potential cost set aside in its 2013 budget.
And council started looking at Milford Fest 2013, which will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 25. They agreed to make the community building available free of charge for fundraising events for the Lions Club and Kiwanis May 4, 24 and 27.
Milford Fest chair Tricia Gall said anyone interested in being involved can call her at 574-344-7811.
Members later set an executive session to discuss personnel issues Monday at 7 p.m. in town hall.[[In-content Ad]]
