In December, Lake City Bank’s Mike Kubacki was recognized as Community Banker of the Year by the publication American Banker.

Kubacki called American Banker “the daily newspaper of the banking industry” but deflected any individual praise stating that award was more of a reflection of Lakeland Financial and Lake City Bank.

“I learned about it in early November. It was a result of the bank’s performance,” said Kubacki. “It doesn't have anything to do with me. It’s based on our performance. We’ve gotten ourselves recognized on several Top 25 lists.”

The American Banker article notes that in September, Sandler O’Neill & Partners LP named the $2.8 billion-Lakeland as one of its 25 small bank all-stars for 2011, based on such metrics and profitability, credit quality and capital strength.

That recognition, said Kubacki, led to the prestigious honor.

“It’s awkward as heck,” said Kubacki, deflecting praise. “It’s the bank. The bank has done extremely well. If anything I’m proud of personally, we do have a culture that attracts and develops and holds on to really good people.”

Lakeland Financial Corporation President and Chief Financial Officer David Findlay praised Kubacki.

“As employees, this recognition reaffirms what we’ve known for 13 years,” said Findlay. “Mike is a banker that is dedicated to our community banking principles and his leadership has been both visionary and strategically simple – by taking care of our communities and clients every day, we should create financial success and enhance shareholder value.”

“We continue to invest in ourselves so we can provide good service to our customers,” said Kubacki.
