Rhonda Elliott wants to make sure troops are not forgotten this Christmas or any time of the year.

Elliott, Midas Auto Service manager, Warsaw, started a collection drop-off site for local servicemen and women at Midas in April 2007.

Customers and Kosciusko County residents collect and drop off items year-round for local troops from Marshall, Kosciusko, Fulton and Whitley counties. Those serving in the Navy, Army, Coast Guard, National Guard, Air Force and Marines receive care packages.

Elliott said since the program started, there have been more than 600 care packages mailed to troops.

She is seeking the community's help in collecting items for the troops and making financial contributions to pay for the shipping expenses for the items.

Elliott said Midas currently has a list of 10 servicemen and women who receive care packages. She said she is always looking for names and addresses of servicemen and women.

"These men and women need to know we care about them and they are not forgotten," Elliott said.

Elliott's son, Kris Hill, has served in the Marines for the past 3-1/2 years and is now on his second deployment. He is currently serving in Afghanistan and served in Iraq last year. Hill is one of the servicemen who receives a care package.

The servicemen and women on the list receive a care package at least once a month.

Suggested items include personal hygiene products such as unscented baby wipes, lotion, bar soap, eye drops, hand sanitizer, travel-size toothpaste, mouthwash and clear deodorant.

Work equipment items include waterproof matches and thick rubber gloves.

Food and snack items needed are breath mints, hard candy, gummy bears, beef jerky, pre-sweetened drink mixes and mixed nuts.[[In-content Ad]]People can make financial contributions by stopping by Midas and placing money in a jug or by mailing checks to Elliott at Midas Auto Center, 3555 Commerce Drive, Warsaw, IN 46580, with "troop support" in the memo line.

Items can be dropped off at Midas Auto Center Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
