He was born May 24, 1945, in Bluffton, to Herbert William and Martha Travis Black. On Dec. 17, 1988, in Uniondale, he married Daphne Johnloz, who survives.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during Vietnam from 1963-67. He resided in Uniondale for 30 years of his life. He was the local delivery "breadman" for Colonial Bakery for more than 20 years. He also owned Mike's Lawn Service, North Webster, for 20 years. He worked 15 years as a supervisor at Colbin Tool, Syracuse, retiring in 2008. He was a member of West Etna Community Church, North Webster American Legion Post 253, and a life member of the Syracuse Veterans of Foreign Post.
Also surviving are three daughters, Angela (and spouse Kary) Biberstein and Wendy (and spouse Heath) Schlagenhauf, all of Bluffton, and Tonya (and spouse Frank) Aerts, LaPorte; two sisters, Carol (and spouse Stan) Hoffacker, Uniondale, and Adrienne (and spouse Doyt) Davies, Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Thoma-Rich, Chaney & Lemler Funeral Home, Bluffton, with Pastor Bud Winstead officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery with military honors by members of American Legion and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
