ROCHESTER - The Rochester town marshal has asked town residents to be on the look-out for “scrappers” - those who steal copper or other in-demand metals to sell for a profit.
Town Marshal Jodi Miller issued a release urging residents to be watchful of suspicious people driving around their property, and to canvas their grounds to be sure nothing has gone missing. Miller also said residents should store outdoor equipment inside whenever possible, the release said.
“If someone seems to be hanging around too long, they might be seeing what you’ve got lying around and what your schedule is,” Miller said in the release.
The Rochester Police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department have fielded an increased number of reports of thefts of copper and aluminum, including of wiring from field irrigation rigs and from new-construction homes, the release said.
Copper, aluminum and other metails have seen a surge in pricing, leading to the increase in crimes involving their thefts.[[In-content Ad]]
