Mermaid Fest Pageant Applications Available

This year the theme is “Back to the ’70s.” Applications are being accepted now for the Queen of Lakes and Cutie King and Queen pageants.
Queen of Lakes is open to women ages 16 to 23. Early bird entry fees are $100 if postmarked no later than May 2; entry fees received after May 2 will be $150.
The applications and rules can be printed from the North Webster Lions Club website at www.mermaid-festival.com/ or Facebook at “Queen of the Lakes Pageant.”
The pageant is June 27 at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St. Contestants must arrive by 10 a.m. Judges will meet with the contestants for interviews in the morning, and practice for the pageant will continue until dismissal for the parade.
All contestants must participate in the Mermaid Festival parade at 4 p.m. and then participate in the Queen of Lakes Pageant, which includes theme wear and formal gowns, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium of the community center.
The organizational/informational meeting for the pageant is May 2 at 10 a.m. at the community center. Park and enter on the east side of the center and look for directional signs inside. Applications may be turned in at this meeting.
For those planning to participate, the organizational/information meeting is important because production for the contest will begin by Ken Strong Productions, the producer of the show/contest.
The Shoop Sports and Youth Foundation Inc. will provide scholarships totaling $5,000 that will be awarded to the Queen of Lakes and her court. The Lioness Club will provide a Community Service Award and a Miss Congeniality Award. Queen of Lakes parade prize scholarships awarded by the Shoop Foundation will total $1,500.
The Cutie Queen and King Pageant is open to girls and boys between the ages of 4 and 6 as of June 1.
Applications must be received no later than June 19 for participation in the pageant. The applications and rules can be printed from the North Webster Lions Club website, www.mermaid-festival.com There is no entry fee.
