Merle “Gene” Yarnall, 66, of Leesburg, died at 3:20 p.m. Dec. 28, 2011, in Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, Fla.

He was born Oct. 23, 1945, in Elkhart, to Frederick and Martha Louise Passwater Yarnall. On Aug. 10, 1973, in Palos Park, Ill., he married Georgia G. Grossman, who survives.

Moving to Leesburg from Niota, Ill., in 1990, he owned Dependable Auto Sales, Warsaw,  for eight years, retiring in 1998, and formerly owned Niota Auto Sales for eight years. He enjoyed attending car shows and auctions, hunting and boating. He was a humorous man and a real “character.” He loved being around his grandchildren and was known to have “given counsel” to the older grandchildren. His wife was everything to him – he was a faithful, hard working, dependable and loving husband and loved her cooking.

Also surviving are a son, Richard Yarnall, Columbus, Ohio; an honorary daughter, Michelle (and spouse Mark) Alfano, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Hailey and Maddy Yarnall; and seven honorary grandchildren: Evan, Ashton, Jeremy, Melissa, Heather, Aaron and Amber. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Scott K. Yarnall, who died in 2009, and Anthony G. Yarnall, who died in 1992.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Larry McCall of Christ Covenant Church, Warsaw.

Calling is one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
