MENTONE – Mentone Youth League announced that the upcoming 2014 season is about to begin with many new changes including new board members, new officers, procedures and policies that will provide “a great future for the youth program,” according to a press release.
MYL announced its 2014 board of directors and officers are: Chris Pettit, president; Josh Crabb, vice president; Shaun Shepherd, secretary; Thadd Mellott, treasurer; Michelle Goble, deputy treasurer; Keith Egolf, equipment manager; and Phil Prater, Dan Thompson, Steve Moriarty and Terrye Kirchenstien, board members at-large.
According to the press release, “As some may have heard or read in the local media, the Mentone Youth League has experienced a situation where a former board member abused our written policies and procedures under which we operated. The MYL board members would like to extend our apologies to our community and reassure you that we are taking significant steps to build Mentone Youth League into a youth sports program that we and our supporting community members can be proud of.”
Pettit recalls growing up as one of three children being raised by a single parent; the coaches and volunteer parents of his local little league baseball team were like an extended family to him. Being involved in a youth program helps learn skills like teamwork, responsibility, a hard work ethic, achieving goals, camaraderie and sportsmanship, the release states. “All these attributes helped build character and help build a community.”
Registration is: Monday, 5 to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, 5 to 8 p.m.; Feb. 15, 9 a.m. to noon; Feb. 17, 3 to 8 p.m.
Registration fees are $35 for the first player and $30 for each additional sibling. The fundraiser buy-out is $25.[[In-content Ad]]
