Mentone Elementary Students Give to Riley Kids Fund

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

By Staff Report-

The Mentone Elementary School Student Council in third through fifth grade decided to sell Lip Pops to the student body this year for Valentine’s Day and use the proceeds for charity.
The student council brainstormed several charitable projects they could support and watched a Power Point presentation about all the different options they had discussed.
The council voted and selected KC Riley Kids Fund to be the recipient of their Lip Pop sales. Members said they chose the fund because they knew students in their school have gone to Riley for treatments and they wanted to help their friends.
Not only did students line up to buy the Lip Pops during lunchtime, many students also donated. The council had hoped to raise $200 to give to KC Riley Kids Fund. Ultimately, they raised $506, which they presented on air at WRSW 107.3 FM radio this morning as part of Riley Radio Days.
The KC Riley Kids Fund is held at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation and provides support to Riley Children’s Hospital along with financial assistance to Kosciusko County families who have a child being treated at Riley.
Since 1968, Kosciusko County Community Foundation Inc. has brought caring people and charitable endeavors together for the good of the community. The Community Foundation is a public charity, and gifts made to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
