Council President Tim Croy said Krystal Lybarger wanted to resign from the park board because of her busy schedule. In her place will be Utilities Superintendent Josh Shepherd.
Lybarger used to also handle the park reservation schedule, but now that will be done through the clerk’s office.
Shepherd also will take over as cemetery sexton from Eric Carlin.
Croy will continue to serve as the town’s building inspector.
Speaking of buildings, Croy told town attorney Larry Beeson that they need to confront Richard Sirface about his old dentist office at 123 E. Main St.
The town told him to fix it up repeatedly and Sirface said he would, but it never happened.
“What we want is to declare it unsafe and have him bring it down,” said Clerk-Treasurer Barb Ross.
“It would be nice if (Beeson) would meet with Mr. Sirface,” said Croy.
“It’s too bad because it was a landmark,” said Ross.
In 2012, the postal service had a town meeting about the post office regarding a change in hours. At that time, Croy told the post office representative that he felt it was pre-determined what the hours would be cut down to, and they were.
Now, a Village Post Office inside Allen’s Country Market on Main Street sells stamps and pre-paid boxes. While he has nothing against the grocery store and is glad they’re in town, Croy said he sees that as another stepping stone in the Mentone post office being closed.
“They’ve already cut the hours at the post office and they were the busiest hours,” he said.
Croy said he would like to see residents support the post office.
“I agree,” said councilwoman Jill Gross. “Once it’s gone, they’ll be sorry.”
In other business, Shepherd thanked Ace Hardware and D&D Maintenance for help in putting up the Christmas decorations.
Board member Shelly Krueger welcomed two new businesses to town: Teri’s This & That and TJ’s Craft & Home Decor, both on Main Street.[[In-content Ad]]
