Menards Inc. posted a sign this week along U.S. 30, where a Menards store will be built, that states "Menards Coming Soon."
Warsaw City Council approved at its Jan. 16 meeting a request by Menards Inc. to rezone approximately 21 acres from R-1 residential to C-3 commercial along Husky Trail and Patterson Road to allow for a Menards store.[[In-content Ad]]The store will be at 900 Husky Trail, and will be approximately 165,000 square feet with an attached lumberyard at the rear of the store.
Warsaw Plan Commission approved in April a final plat and development plan for a Menards residential subdivision to be constructed northeast of the Menards store.
Two signs also are posted next to the Menards sign informing people homebuilders are needed to build homes for the residential subdivision.
The Menards store project will need to be bid. A contractor will be selected this spring, according to Garrett Caffee, a lawyer for Menards.
"As road construction projects have their ideal season, Menards waits for construction season in the spring and summer to build our stores," Caffee said.
Caffee said Menards will not build the homes, but they purchased the property northeast of where the Menards store will be built and are seeking builders for the residential subdivision.
Menards will put in roads, infrastructure, water and sewer and then sell the lots to contractors wishing to build homes, Caffee said.
He said Menards constructs 16 to 18 stores a year in 11 states. Its construction season is in the spring and summer.
City Planner Jeremy Skinner said the project should be completed by the end of 2008.
People who want to build homes for the residential subdivision may contact Jamie Radabaugh at 715-876-2224 or Adam Ray at 715-876-2309.
