Many events and programs provided by American Legion chapters honoring veterans will occur throughout the county Monday.

In Syracuse, a parade will be at 1:30 p.m. and travel on Medusa Avenue to the local cemetery.

On the route, the parade will stop at a bridge and throw a wreath into the water below to remember fallen sailors, and will follow with a 21-gun salute.

Once at the cemetery, a small program will be held with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1342 reading names of brothers and sisters that have passed away during the year. The Ladies Auxiliary will place a wreath to remember the deceased, and a 21-gun salute and “Taps” will close the program.

Warsaw’s program will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.

Warsaw Community High School band will kick the morning off with music starting at 10:15 a.m. while combined color guards post the colors.

Roy Bradbury, VFW Post 49 commander, will say the Pledge of Allegiance and welcome everyone. An invocation, memorial address, benediction and roll call of deceased veterans will be provided. The combined color guards will then retire the colors, followed by a procession to the Gar Circle and Legion Circle No. 2 where a wreath will be placed. “Taps” will follow the presentation, with wreath dedications and another presentation of “Taps.”

In Pierceton, the American Legion will hold a program in Brower Park at 11 a.m. as opposed to holding a parade.

During the program, there will be music played and guest speakers have been invited. The program will end with the firing squad performing the 21-gun salute and “Taps.”[[In-content Ad]]
