NAPPANEE - Melvin N. Miller, 83, of 5587 W. CR 1100N, Milford, died after a brief illness at 11:21 p.m. Aug. 6, 2010, in Elkhart General Hospital, where he was admitted earlier in the day.

He was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Nappanee, to Noah M. and Emma C. Shlabach Miller. On April 24, 1952, he married Clara J. Yoder, who survives.

A lifetime resident, he was a member and minister in the Old Order Amish Church and was a retired farmer and carpenter.

Also surviving are six sons: Wayne M. (and spouse Barbara) and Ernest M. (and spouse Esther) Miller, all of Nappanee; Lamar M. (and spouse Naomi) Miller, Floyd M. (and spouse Laureen) Miller, Vernon M. (and spouse Miriam) Miller and Omer M. (and spouse Virginia) Miller, all of Milford; two daughters, Wilma Jean Miller and Barbara Ann (and spouse Glen R.) Miller, all of Milford; 39 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eldon (and spouse Linda) Miller, Florida; and a sister, Esther Chupp, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, four brothers and three sisters.

Services were at 9:30 a.m. today at the Don Schmucker residence, 5509 W. CR 1050N, with Bishop Lyle Yoder and Home Ministry of Old Order Amish Church officiating. Burial was in Graber Cemetery.
