Virginia and Nelson Mayhew, Cabot, Ark., announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Ellen Mayhew, Fort Wayne, to Scott Joseph Bryan, Matthews, N.C. He is the son of Joe and Cindy Bryan, Warsaw.

The bride-to-be is a copy editor for The Journal Gazette, Fort Wayne. She is a 1998 graduate of Pine Forrest High School, Fayetteville, N.C. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism and English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002.

The groom-elect is a math teacher at Union City Middle School, Marshville, N.C. He is a 2000 graduate of Wawasee High School, Syracuse. He received a bachelor's degree in elementary education with an additional license in middle school mathematics from Ball State University in 2006.

The couple plans a July 5 wedding at Oakwood Park, Syracuse.[[In-content Ad]]
