Maxie E. Smith, 74, Kosciusko County, died at 2:20 p.m. Oct. 29, 2014, in Mason Health & Rehab, Warsaw.
He was born March 13, 1940, in Plymouth, to Sylvester and Myrtle Himes Smith. On July 28, 1962, he married Beverly K. Spangle, who died June 25, 1990. On Sept. 14, 1990, he married Diane Hepler, who survives.
He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. He was a driver for Horizon Transport, and retired in 2012 after 22 years. He attended Clunette United Methodist Church.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army July 31, 1963. He loved western movies, puzzles, games and sporting events, and was a Notre Dame fan.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kelly (and spouse Dan) Hale, Silver Lake; a son, Jeff (and spouse Diane) Hathaway, Silver Lake; five grandchildren: Keira (and spouse Zach) Collins, Mentone; Sierra Hale, Warsaw; Jacob and Jason Hathaway, both of North Manchester; and Danielle (and spouse James) Childress, Trenton, Ga.; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Steve (and spouse Linda) Smith, Sidney, and Philip (and spouse Laura) Smith, Warsaw. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Donna Kiser, who died March 28, 2012.
Services will be held at a later date.
Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
