SYRACUSE - Maurice J. "Maurie" Howe, 86, of North Webster, died at 5:20 a.m. Sept. 19, 2007, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Darlington, Wis., to James M. and Isabelle Boyle Howe. On April 19, 1941, he married Madge E. Power, who died Nov. 3, 1997. On July 14, 2007, in Pierceton, he married Betty L. Barker Kruger, who survives.

He attended Darlington (Wis.) High School. He was a World War II Army Veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart Award. He moved to North Webster from Rockford, Ill., in 1955. He was former owner and operator of Mid Lakes Army Surplus, H&H Manufacturing and Yellow Banks Hotel, all in North Webster. He was a former insurance agent for Western Southern Life & United Home Life, and formerly worked at North American Boat Co., Rockford, Ill., and Warsaw. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish, Pierceton; a life member of American Legion 253, North Webster; Veterans of Foreign Wars 1382, Syracuse; Disabled American Veterans, Goshen; and Knights of Columbus 4511, Warsaw.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Linda) Kennedy, Auburn; a son, Ronald Howe, Greenback, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Yut (Kay) Promkhieo, North Webster; a stepson, Kurt Kruger, North Webster; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish, Pierceton, with Father Bruce J. Piechocki officiating. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery (Mock Addition) with full military graveside rites by members of North Webster American Legion 253.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
