Mary Rush Manwaring Derry

She was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Mentone, to William Ray and Bernice Goshert Rush. On June 14, 1941, she married Lt. Miles Leroy Manwaring, who died Sept. 18, 1960. On Sept. 16, 1978, she married Harold A. Derry, who died July 17, 2004.
She was a 1936 graduate of Mentone High School. She retired from a long career in banking in 1983. She was with First National Bank, Warsaw, for 22 years and formerly worked at Farmer State Bank, Mentone.
A lifelong resident of Kosciusko County, she was a member and an elder of First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, where she was active in the Women’s Organization, a member of the sewing and quilting circles and had been a teacher in the children’s department. She was a member of the Zerelda Reading Club, P.E.O Sisterhood and Thursday Bridge Group. She served two terms on the United Way Board and served 3,000 volunteer hours with the former Kosciusko Community Hospital Auxiliary.
She had a wide range of interests including her church, knitting (especially cancer caps) and other hand work, cards and other games and sports and culture events, but her greatest interest was her large family and keeping up with each and every member.
Surviving are two children, Larry (and spouse Luanne) Manwaring, Spartanburg, S.C., and Elaine (and spouse Ted) Hite, Lawrence, Kan.; two stepchildren: Jim (and spouse Nancy) Derry, Warsaw, and Christy (and spouse Kirk) Matlock, Collierville, Tenn.: a stepson-in-law, Frank Grose, Warsaw; five grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 28 step-great-grandchildren; five step-great-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Ridgway, Winona Lake, and Virginia Hight, Etna Green; two brothers, Carl Rush, Beaumont, Texas, and Don Rush, Corunna; 18 nieces and nephews; and dear devoted friends, Janet Lasley and Marcia Anderson, both of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Hoffer; two brothers, Warrant Officer William Rush and Paul Rush; and a stepdaughter, Diane Grose.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 S. High St., Warsaw, officiated by Chaplain Doug West. Burial will be private.
