She was born Oct. 6, 1915, in Laketon, to Daniel F. and Mary Frances Flora Reahard. On Nov. 21, 1940, in North Manchester, she married Roland D. Lukens, who passed Feb. 13, 1968.
She retired from 42 years of teaching at several different elementary schools, which included Avilla, Riddle, Gilead, Warsaw, Akron, Beaver Dam, Talma and Hammond, Indiana's Columbia Elementary where she retired from in 1982. She also owned and operated a store called The Doll House.
She got her bachelor's degree from Manchester College and then her master's degree from Indiana University. She was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church, and she attended Olive Bethel Church of God. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and a life member of the National Teachers Association. She was also a member of Pi Lambda Theta. She was a volunteer at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Ill. She was a past president of the Friends of the Akron Public Library, a 10-year member of 4-H, and was also in junior leaders and was a 4-H club leader. She had been a 50-year member of The Order of Eastern Stars in which she was a past Worthy Matron.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Petersen, Indianapolis; a son, Lincoln (and spouse Cathie) Lukens, Rochester; five grandchildren: Christopher Delriego, Jennifer Lukens, Victoria Elia, Micah Lukens and Gus Lukens; and a great-granddaughter, Becky Minnick. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Reahard, and three brothers, Everett Gene and Daniel Reahard.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Don Funk officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
