She was born Oct. 2, 1917, in Silver Lake, to Charlie and Lola Eiler Flenar. On April 17, 1938, in North Manchester, she married Paul E. Grandstaff, who survives.
She was secretary at Grandstaff Rendering Service, North Manchester, for 35 years. She was a 1935 graduate of Laketon High School, and a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manchester. She received the Diana Award from the E.S.A. Sorority and was honored as the grand marshall of the Fun Fest and Laketonian Days Parades. She was known as Mom Grandstaff because of the Sunday night meals she served in her home for Manchester College students for 16 years.
Also surviving are four children: David (and spouse Jane) Grandstaff, North Manchester; Dr. Daniel (and Carolyn Worthing) Grandstaff, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Rebecca Kilgore, Williamsburg, Va.; and Nancy Straka, Huntington; a former daughter-in-law, Patt Grandstaff , Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren: Erin (and spouse Steve) Jungbauer, Leesburg; Penny (and spouse Rick) Ruppert, Rochester; Peter Grandstaff, Hillsborough, North Carolina; Lucas (and spouse Chelsi) Straka and Ben (and spouse Racheal) Straka, all of Huntington; Charles (and spouse Brandy) Barda, Richmond, Va.; and Paul Kilgore; Midlothian, Va.; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a grandson, Jeffrey Grandstaff, who died in 1993.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 113 W. Main St., North Manchester, with Pastor Alice Smith officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jeff Hawkins. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
