NAPPANEE - Marvin E. Schmucker, 73, 28892 U.S. 6 West, Nappanee, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at his residence. Death was attributed to a drowning accident at a pond on the family farm.

He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Nappanee, to Emmon D. and Salina Hochstetler Schmucker. On April 6, 1961, he married Katie Mae Miller, who died Feb. 18, 1968. On Oct. 16, 1969, he married Mary Etta Eash, who survives.

He was a lifetime Nappanee resident and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He was a retired farmer and worked at Liberty Coach.

Also surviving are three sons: Glen (and spouse Becky) and Lamar Schmucker (and special friend Marilyn Miller) all of Nappanee; and Edward (and spouse Susan) Schmucker, Bremen; six daughters: Virginia (and spouse Omer) Miller and Julia (and spouse Floyd) Miller, all of Milford; Kathryn (and spouse Devon) Slabaugh, New Paris; Laura (and spouse Marion) Miller, Nappanee; Colleen (and spouse Kenny) Yoder, Shipshewana; and Rosanna (and spouse Toby) Troyer, Bremen; two brothers: Freeman Schmucker, Leesburg; and Levi (and spouse Millie) Schmucker, Goshen; four sisters: Edna (and spouse Dan) Stoltzfus, Holtwood, Pa.; Malinda (and spouse Leroy) Hochstetler, Bremen; Mahala (and spouse John) Troyer, Nappanee; and Salina (and spouse John) Yoder; Shipshewana; 40 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services were held today in the family residence with Bishop Toby Slabaugh officiating, assisted by Home Ministry. Burial was in Weldy Cemetery.
